Terms of use

1. Operator

The website mestomat.cz and its Slovak version mestomat.sk are operated by Bandurka s.r.o., Company ID 22450319, registered office Zenklova 24/54, Libeň, 180 00 Prague 8, registered in the Commercial Register kept by the Municipal Court in Prague, section C, file 416658 (“we”). Contact: info@mestomat.sk. By using the website you agree to these terms; by signing up you enter into a free contract for the use of an account.

2. Data on the website

We take the data on schools, catchment areas, districts, transport, the environment, doctors and crime from public sources and process it (see the list and licences on the data sources page). Some data we derive automatically, e.g. catchments from the text of ordinances or travel times from timetables, and it may contain mistakes. The data is for guidance only, it is not legal or other professional advice, and we don’t guarantee that it is complete and correct. Before an important decision (school enrolment, buying or renting a flat) please check it with the school, the authority or another source. Tell us about a mistake by e-mail, we’ll gladly fix it.

3. User account

  • An account is for one person. Sign up with your real e-mail and don’t share your password.
  • We may block or cancel an account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
  • You can ask us to cancel your account by e-mail at any time; we delete it together with your reviews.

4. Rules for reviews

Reviews help others decide, so they must be honest and fair. A review:

  • is based on your own experience (your child attends or attended the school, you live or lived in the district) and the relation you state is true;
  • doesn’t name or otherwise identify private persons: teachers, staff, children, parents, neighbours; it contains no addresses, phone numbers or other contacts;
  • doesn’t accuse particular people of crimes and gives no details of others’ health or private life;
  • isn’t offensive, vulgar, hateful or discriminatory;
  • isn’t advertising or spam and contains no links;
  • isn’t written for payment or another benefit, about a school where you work, or about a competitor.

Each account can write one review of each school and each district; you can edit or delete your review at any time.

5. How we verify reviews

  • Only a registered user with an e-mail confirmed through a link can write a review.
  • A moderator checks ordinary users’ reviews against the rules above before they are published. An edited review is checked again. Moderators’ own reviews are published straight away.
  • We check whether a review follows the rules; we can’t verify that the author really knows the school or district. We don’t publish reviews we have good reason to doubt (e.g. in bulk or clearly ordered).
  • We publish positive and negative reviews alike. We don’t edit a review’s text; if it breaks the rules, we return it to the author with an explanation, or don’t publish it.
  • We pay no one for reviews and don’t reward them in any other way, and no one can buy a better rating from us or the removal of a worse one.
  • The overall rating is the average of the stars of all published reviews; the average for a topic counts only the reviews that rated that topic.

6. Reporting inappropriate content

If a review breaks the rules or your rights, report it with the “Report” button by the review, or write to info@mestomat.sk: give the link to the page, which review you mean and why you think it is unlawful or against the rules. We assess reports without undue delay, usually within a few days. We hide or delete a review that breaks the rules or the law and tell the author; both the author and the person reporting can object to our decision by e-mail and we assess it again.

7. Rights to the content

You remain the author of your review. By sending it you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish it on the website and in related services (e.g. in search results) until you delete it. The texts, the design of the website and the database we have compiled from various sources and added to (including reviews) are protected by copyright and the sui generis database right. Bulk or automated downloading of the content (scraping) and its further distribution without our consent are not allowed. You may use third parties’ open data under their own licences.

8. Liability

The author of a review is responsible for its content. We run the website as is, without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability, and we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of the data or reviews on the website, nor for the content of third-party sites we link to. This doesn’t affect the rights the law gives you.

9. Final provisions

These terms are governed by the law of the Czech Republic. If you are a consumer living in Slovakia, you keep the protection that the mandatory rules of Slovak consumer law give you. We may change them; the current version is always on this page with its date of validity, and we tell registered users about significant changes by e-mail in advance. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.
